Caroline Mayow studied painting at Camberwell School of Art (1957-61) where her painting tutors included Frank Auerbach, Antony Eyton and Euan Uglow who all encouraged interest in light and colour and respect for what Auerbach called “the grandeur of the subject”.

Her subsequent teaching experience led towards greater interest in the local community both social and political and a second career in Community and Adult Education after further training at Goldsmiths College.

Working with Gerda Rubinstein at her open studios led to close study in figurative sculpture.
